Through a series of writing exercises during the creative writing workshop presented by Mr. John Lee this afternoon, our group has learned more about creativity and collaboration. As we combined our ideas to form a poem and composed stories together, we realised that creativity can be manifested through remixes of insights and collaboration. We reflected on how to become a good team player, such as being open-minded and showing respect to all team members’ thoughts, ideas and opinions . Next, we understood how relaxing and therapeutic free-writing could be, which was a rather new type of writing to us. Finally, we ended the workshop with the composition of haiku (short poems) and we came to realise that tiny and brief moments can be re-animated in our minds through vivid sensory descriptions. We have refined our writing skills and learned about maintaining creativity and tackling the writer’s block. However, beyond the words scribbled onto the paper, we have learned to engage and contribute into group projects with our team mates to facilitate a better collaboration.
After the workshop, we had experienced the scavenger hunt, in which we are required to complete missions across the campus. We have learned to complete tasks strategically in order to maximise our outcome (the points gained). We have also realised the importance of engagement within the team because we can contribute and complete tasks effectively and efficiently. In addition, while we were exploring around the campus, we also got to get along with other international students and learned about their cultures as well. It was a splendid opportunity for us to make new friends and adapt to new environments.
