12 July 2019 (Group 4)
To begin our day, we attended a lesson on design thinking, which was about ways to tackle complex problems effectively. We learnt about the five steps in coming up with a solution, which are empathise with the people involved, define the problem, ideate, creating a prototype and test our solution. This design thinking workshop was not only amusing, but was also useful for developing ideas for our Global Solution Projects.
Next, we had our design quality workshop. We learnt about how to make quality decisions by considering different outcomes and our risk tolerance levels. We watched a documentary about making decisions of methods of achieving the destination in a hiking trip and analysed different outcomes as well. By looking at the problem from multiple perspectives, we could make a balance between the pros and cons of the situation and come up with an ideal solution.

Later on, we gathered into our GSP groups and discussed about our Global Solutions project. We had developed ideas about the history of our island by visualising them and discussing solutions among our teammates. We understand more about the different personalities of groupmates from different backgrounds. Through the discussion, we have learnt the importance of clear and effective communication with students all over the world. We applied the thinking skills we learnt in design thinking and quality decision workshops into the meeting and was in good progress.
At last, we had the highlights of this week, the Multicultural Exhibition. All participants from various countries set up booths featuring their cultural items from their homeland, for example, Indian traditional snacks. Some countries also presented their traditional costumes and had singing and dancing performances. It was heartwarming to watch. One of the teams even organised a trivia quiz about their home country, Russia. Through participating in the exciting game, we gained a deeper understanding of Russia and its geographical features. For our booth, we taught participants and counsellors on how to make Chinese lanterns and goldfishes. We also taught them how to write their Chinese names. We had a busy and extraordinary day and met more new friends from diverse countries. We all had a great time in this Multicultural Exhibition and it was an unforgettable experience for us.
