9 July 2019 Group 4
To start off our day, we attended a workshop about effective communication. We have learnt some basic principles of persuasion and gave persuasive speeches in groups. By delivering speeches using persuasive strategies and giving feedback on others’ performance, we reflected on our presentation skills and body gestures. We learnt the importance of speaking confidently and to connect with the emotions of the audience, as they were fundamental in becoming a successful speaker. In the long term, we could build strong relationship with people around us if we implement these speaking skills into our daily lives.

After lunch, we went to a cultural psychology lesson, which was about comparing behaviours of people from different parts of the world. Through this lesson, we realised that people with different backgrounds would have different preferences and feelings due to cultural differences, and we should respect and embrace their opinions as their cultures may have different core values with Chinese culture. We also learnt more about the American culture as they tend to be more outspoken, confident and to think outside the box when facing difficulties.

Later on, we had a meeting with our GSP groupmates. We then exchanged our ideas with other GSP groups. Even though we were not in the same group, we believed that we can improve and expand more on each others’ ideas and we should try to have a deeper understanding on environmental sustainability. We made good use of effective communication skills we learnt this morning, and felt much more confident in speaking in front of the group.
After dinner, we carried on working in the presentation slides of our GSP project. We assigned our roles quickly and even managed to complete all the slides in time! Through this, I understood the importance of collaboration, and by working hard with our teammates on various areas, we could achieve efficiency and we finished our work quickly. We felt accomplished and successful afterwards!
