17th July 2019 Group 6
This morning, we attended a class called Silicon Valley vs The World: The Impact of Technology Today. We learnt more about facial recognition technology and their pros and cons. Then we had a debate where we represented different stakeholders of society and argued whether or not ReKognition should be developed and used from different perspectives. We found out that there was actually lots of shady sides of this piece of technology, because it invades citizens' privacy and their freedom to a certain extent. This in depth discussion opened our minds for it was something that we would not be able to learn in school. This trained our critical thinking skills and widened our horizons.
After lunch, the lesson we went to was about creative writing where we made up funny stories and haiku poems about something that makes us happy. This was very different from the writing we do at school. For instance, we tried free writing where we wrote non-stop without restrictions. It made us feel relaxed and free from limitations. We learnt to relax ourselves through writing. Mr Lee encouraged us to keep a journal every day to release our emotions in a good way.
Afterwards, we went to Synergy house to our GSP meeting. Each group further divided and mixed with other groups and we worked on specific domain (e.g. health and human rights, economy and trade, sustainable development and immigration and assimilation). It was fun to hear from other people’s points of views. We could improve our own project through peer learning. We came up with our flag and anthem and it was a great time.
