11 Jul 2019 group 5

11th, July,2019
In the morning, we prepared for our mock trial for better learning during our lesson. We had rehearsals for both defense and plaintiff team-  attorneys wrote their scripts and discussed the evidence with the witnesses. We enjoyed our time working with our group mates.
Then, we visited the particle accelerator at SLAC lab near Stanford campus. We understood more about the  science experiments in the laboratory after watching an introduction video, such as making the largest camera to take pictures of the southern sky and investigate the galaxies and stars. We visited the particle accelerator and experimental hall. We learnt a lot more about the movements of electrons and the applications of X-ray waves produced.

After lunch, we went to a mock trial lesson in which our team were divided in plaintiff and defense teams. We experienced how a real trial on court works and also learnt debating skills, such as making logical arguments with concrete evidence. The experience is surely valuable and is a very treasurable event for those who have great interest in law studies. Despite the fact that it was our very first time, we have tried our best and learnt how to think critically and argue precisely. We had so much fun and is really unforgettable!

Next, we went to the synergy house for our first Global Science Project (GSP) meeting so that we could have an opportunity to exchange and communicate with our groupmates from other countries, such as Brazil and the Philippines. We discussed more on the project and had an overall review on the strengths and weaknesses of the island assigned by teachers. Then, we designed some measures to alleviate the identified challenges. We have trained a lot in critical thinking, as well as cooperating with one another.

In the evening, we have done preparations for tomorrow’s multi cultural exhibition. We also asked the counsellors to try the traditional Chinese paper cutting. They gave positive feedback on the progress and instructions. We hope to promote Chinese culture to others successfully in the project!
