10th July 2019 group 4

The rewarding day started with the” Global Solution Project” briefing session, in which we discussed about the project we need to complete by the end of our stay. Every team would have to create their ideal country and address global issues for example human rights and economy. At first, we were a bit shy and could not muster up enough courage to talk to our teammates who come from different parts of the world, but after the icebreaker, which was introducing ourselves and our hobbies through a game, we opened up and became much more confident, uniting as a team and chatting with them, learning more about different cultures all around the globe.
After this session, we had lunch at the Flo-Mo, which allowed us to enjoyed a delicious buffet for an hour. We noticed that recycle bins were everywhere in Stanford, promoting recycling, which gave us insight in how much Americans value protecting the world and conserving its resources. This is impressive and we aim to learn from their practices and develop the habit of recycling when we go back to Hong Kong.
Creative Writing lessons with Mr John Lee
Then, we had creative writing class which was taught by Mr John Lee, a writer. We have had many creative writing practices during school, but those here were different than those in Hong Kong –they were more interactive. Starting the class, we selected 5 random texts each, and formed into groups of 5 to compose a poem with all 25 random texts. Our poems were absolutely hilarious, and we laughed our heads off. This was a really good chance for us to explore the characteristics of a good teammate, which was then taught by Mr Lee. We reflected on our behavior during the previous game, and realized our mistakes. We aim to work harder in the future and be much more responsible and engaged. In addition, Mr Lee provided us a writing prompt and it was really a relaxing and amazing experience to let us pour our hearts out.  Moreover, We made haiku poems for something we are thankful for, which was easy. We could also develop a sense of gratitude for things surrounding us, which is an absolutely great practice.

Pretending to be the drawing on the Stanford Memorial Church
Pretending to be eating at the Flo-Mo (Florence Moore) Hall
After that, we had a Scavenger Hunt with our GSP groups. This was a great time for the 10 of us, who come form different countries to bond and have something to talk about in the future. We traveled to places around the campus such as the law school and played fun games with the Tas and our teammates. The atmosphere began to loosen up and everyone began to be their own selves and volunteered more. We are so looking forward to the following days and activities in this summer programme!
